How to make a circle skirt

skirt
1. Measure around your waist where you want the skirt to sit (for example purposes lets say your waist measures at 28″)

2.  Fold 2 inches of your fabric over, measure over 28 inches and cut. This will be the waist band for your skirt.

3. Take your waist measurement is like the circumference of a circle. Divide that number by 3.14 (28/3.14=8.92) then divide that number by 2 (8.92/2=4.46). 4.46 is the radius.

4. Fold the fabric for the top layer of your skirt in half vertically, then fold your fabric in half horizontally. Pin the fabric in place. Measure out 4.46 inches (your radius) from the folded corner and mark with fabric chalk. Measure out your radius to enough points so that you can connect the dots and create a quarter circle on the corner. Measure 6 inches out from the outside of the quarter circle and mark with chalk (this will be the length of the top layer of your skirt). Connect the dots to create the outside of the circle skirt. You should have something that looks like the picture below.

5. To create the under layer of the skirt repeat the steps above with the fabric you would like to use for the under layer but measure the length at 8 inches instead of 6.

6. Cut the fabric along the line of the quarter circle. DO NOT CUT ON THE FOLDS!

7. Unfold the fabric, you should have two pieces that look similar to the picture below, with the under layer 2″ longer in length than the top layer.

8. Lay the two pieces of fabric on top of each other with the top layer upside down on the bottom and the bottom layer upside down on top.

9. Pin the bottom side of the waist band along the inside circle of the two layers of fabric.

10. Sew along the edge.

11. Add the elastic inside the waist band, sew together

Thats it!

Materials Needed: fabric scissors, 2 different types of fabric (about 2 feet), measuring tape, fabric chalk, elastic
